BHP has suspended operations at its Saraji met coal mine in Australia following an incident that killed one of its contractors.
The miner said 16 January that the worker, whose name was not released, was involved in a vehicle incident at Saraji the day prior.
“Emergency services responded to the scene and RSHQ was notified. We are working closely with the Mines Inspectorate and relevant authorities,” BHP officials said.
The company is also offering counselling services to its workforce and their families via its Employee Assistance Program at 1800 056 076.
Saraji, an open-pit mine located near Dysart, Queensland, is one of nine met coal operations in the Bowen Basin. It is part of BMA, a 50/50 joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi Development.
